You are cordially invited to join us for a "Moscow Evening" on Sunday, Jan. 31!
An informal concert will be performed at 4 PM by the St Mary's Orthodox Cathedral Balalaika Orchestra at the lovely Queen Anne home of our neighbor Rich Kelly at 524 7th Ave. S., located diagonally across the intersection from church. This intimate setting is perfect for the soft sounds of the balalaika, stringed instruments that, while common in Eastern Europe, are quite rare here.
A homemade Russian dinner will await you in the church dining room.
We are celebrating Maslenitsa ("butter festival"), which refers to the week before the start of Great Lent, the 40 day preparation for the death and resurrection of Our Savior Jesus Christ. Special foods that are served during this season include lots of dairy products, so that we use them all up before the fasting starts!
Main menu items:
- Dark (rye) bread and butter
- Salat Olivier (cold meat and vegetable salad)
- Shchi (beef cabbage soup)
- Blini (Russian pancakes, like crepes with savory and sweet toppings/fillings)
Tickets for this special occasion are $25 per person.
A pre-paid reservation is required; please send payment to the church. Your check will serve as your reservation and secure a chair for you at the concert. Seating is limited, so please don't delay!
